Nikilynn, as she likes to be known, is a young American aspiring photographer/writer/artist/and psychologistartist. Judging by her work below she is well on her way to becoming a famous digital artist.
My work is a combination of many things. Every photo is essentially my jumbled and varied thoughts and emotions given form. Just like my work is a mixture of photography and art, it's a mixture of the differing sanctions of my mind.
I have always been interested in the mysteries of the mind and fantasy with a hint of reality. One day I was looking through an image internet search and came across some magnificent artistry on flickr. I immediately said to myself, "Whoa! I need to get into this stuff!" From there I bloomed. About a year ago I started to become really interested in photoshop and all that it can do, and from that point I started portraying my mind through my art.
I've always loved the extraordinarily brilliant work of Tim Walker. His photographs always hold a hint of mystery and fantasy through the bold worlds he creates. Many other
photographers have also inspired me. There are so many with unbelievable talent, and way too many to list!
Well, the first part of any project for me is trying to decide which to do. I have to disentangle each idea from the complication of my mind. That is the most difficult part. Ideas and images are constantly running through my mind calling for me to breathe life to them so they can be seen and it's rather difficult to chose between which to do next. After I have the idea planned out I draw it and let it sit for a while so I can add little details later. Then, I gather the skeleton of the idea by taking the base photo in conjunction with the other photos needed. From there, I put it all together in photoshop.
I love the curves tool! I use it most for colouring the image. The first thing I notice about anything is its colour. I love
altering the composition of something to make it pop, and
curves is generally the best tool for this. My best tip is
to experiment with curves and layers.
The best advice I can give is to explore every single tool your edition of photoshop has. Always play around with things and don't be afraid to do something drastic. Find the tool that you love and make it yours, create your own style, and practice, practice, practice!
I love flickr, that's where I draw a lot of my inspiration from. I have to mention again how amazing the photographers and artists are! They're a great community of creative people and I love them all. My new obsession is a website called tumblr. Although it is a website best known as a blogging location, if you follow the right people, you can be introduced to a new world of creativity and inspiration and magnificent photographers. DeviantArt is another good website for art-related photography, there are so many artists on there.
I'm always working on about three to four projects at any
given time; but my Last completed project was a stop motion that I have yet to post to my flickr. It's to bring
awareness to habitat for humanity and homelessness. It's not a typical stop motion, it has elements of manipulation (of course) and it is also one of the projects I am most proud of.
My work is unfortunately not available for sale at the moment, but one day hopefully soon I'll get some sort of system set up! My work is viewable at http://www.flickr.com/photos/niki-lynn/ and I am currently in the process of creating a website, so I'll have the link posted to my flickr sometime in the future!
Most of them represent some sort of freedom. Each photo of the floating, flying, or jumping models are, essentially, the varying levels of freedom that exist within the bounds of my mind. Much of my work are still frames of how I interpret things.
